Course Overview

This course is designed to prepare people to work in the tourism and travel industry both in New Zealand and around the world, specifically in the management and marketing fields. You will develop an understanding of selling travel and tourism and a sound knowledge of modern marketing and management concepts and principles as they apply to the industry. It also provides students with the skills, knowledge and understanding of the intricacies required to enter the travel and/or tourism industry – both in the domestic and international fields and in management trainee roles. Travel and tourism work roles are constantly evolving, and therefore you will study the latest and most relevant training to complement a career in the industry.

Qualifications

  • The going places Diploma in Tourism & Travel Management
  • NZQA National Diploma in Tourism (Management) (Level 5)

Entry requirements

One of:

  • Sixth Form Certificate with a sum of grades of 20 or less in best four subjects or equivalent NCEA standard
  • National Certificate in Travel, Level 3
  • National Certificate in Tourism, Level 3
  • Or an equivalent qualification.

In addition, students whose native language is not English are recommended to have an IELTS score of 5.0 on the general scale but students without this may be accepted subject to passing an internal language competency test and attending an interview or by having completed the IFC Foundation Course.  These students may also be required to undertake additional English study alongside the Diploma programme.

The Diploma course is 36 weeks of study.  (Or combine with the Diploma in Business Management & Marketing in a single 44-week programme.)
